Authenticity versus Transparency
sarahdopp: i wanna see a Venn Diagram that shows the differences and overlaps between "Authenticity" and "Transparency"
social-creature: "authenticity" is about relevance, "transparency" is about defensiveness. the overlap is accidental and uncorrelated.
sarahdopp: that is brilliant. can i quote you on that?
social-creature: yup. and also: http://social-creature.com/sustained-mystery-vs-radical-transparency
sarahdopp: ooh! thank you! totally relevant to what i'm up to today! love it!
social-creature: nice! something else to think about is that in certain communities being "authentic" to that culture means NOT being transparent: hipsters.
No more twitter feed
All those little posts were being imported from my twitter feed…. but that was becoming way too redundant. So if you want ‘em, you’ll have to go to twitter now. Back to a serious focus on the miscellany. (hat tip to emma for kicking my pants about it)
Happy International Quirkyalone Day! Eleanor Roosevelt sez:”No one can make you feel inferior Äabout being singleÑ without your permission.”
One of those mornings where I try to make coffee without the water.
Build this startup: a geek dialect jargon translator modeled after AltaVista Babel Fish. Make it really good, too. Useful, not just fun.
Wakes up one day and realizes she’s in marketing. (Did I just give myself a promotion again?)
I’m in Google top 10 for “technical writing portfolio” and “professional writing portfolio.” Getting emails from career advice seekers. Huh.
What are the best resources right now for non-techie ppl to set up cheap and DIY brochure websites under their own domain?
Interesting notes from the Search SIG at Yahoo last night re: searching social networks. kinda geeky. http://www.sarahdopp.com/blog/?p=401

AWESOME blog documenting the things that white people like, Discovery channel-style.
I’m pretty sure that @susanmernit is about to change the world.
at the SDForums Social Graph SIG w/ @susanmernit. Fave phrase from moderator: “lightweight friendships obfuscating networks”. EXACTLY.

Just witnessed a horrible freeway accident and called 911 for it. Shaking.
Advertisement: “Skipping meals can cause headaches. Feel better. Tylenol.” ..how about: “Feel better. Eat something.” ?!?

Microsoft aggressively courts Yahoo. Yahoo bats eyelashes and then slaps Microsoft across the face. Yahoo turns around and puts arm around AOL. It’s a sordid affair. What do these companies all have in common? Their flagship products are “user-friendly” to the point of lameness. They are the clutter-overloading, resource-hogging, format-monopolizing gateway drugs of...

Email Format Testing and Actually-Good Ad...
This looks pretty nifty: testing emails in all major email clients. Looks like it’s solving a major problem as elegantly as browsershots tried to. Building HTML email newsletters SUCKS because all the major email clients handle them completely differently. Making something that’s really complex look good in Outlook, Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, AOL, Thunderbird, and Apple Mail is a...
maybe not significant, but definitely technificant
it was a typo. i was writing a paper, and i meant to write, “significant technological advances,” and instead wrote, “technificant advances.” 120 seconds later, i was the proud owner of the domain name technificant.com. (you can’t wait around for things like this. by now there are hacker programs that scrape your brain for brilliant urls whenever you coin a new...
